Previous: Quick Advice on Canadian Indie Music Next: Heathrow Airport: You Are In A Maze Of Twisty Little Passages, All Different
You may have noticed that I haven't been updating this blog in a while. Over a year, in fact.
A while ago, I moved my business and technology related blogging to shindigital.com, keeping andrewburke.ca for personal blogging. The energy that used to go into my personal blog has mostly gone into Twitter and to a more limited extent Facebook - and (embarrassing!) I also forgot my personal password for the site.
Well, I've recovered the password (the advantage of building your own blogging tools), and am going to start this blog up again.
The main reason for the restart is that I'm going to be doing a lot of travelling this summer, and I want to write about it.
Shannon is now a Film Studies professor at Dalhousie, and one of the things that academics do in the summer is go to conferences. This summer she has two conferences within a few weeks of each other: the first in Istanbul in late June, and the other in Edinburgh Scotland in early July. We're spending the nine days in between the conferences in Shannon's favourite European city, Berlin. I haven't been to any of these cities, and I'm really looking forward to exploring them, and sharing some of what I discover.
Shortly after we get back from Europe, I'm travelling with my mother up to Fairbanks, Alaska, and then further up to the shores of the Arctic ocean. My great grandfather Ernest de Koven Leffingwell was a geologist and arctic explorer - and we're going up to see the camp that he built on Flaxman Island.
I can't imagine two more different places on earth than the heart of ancient Byzantium and Alaska's North Slope - and I'll be seeing them both within three weeks of each other.
I hope to have some interesting things to say about them - or at least some interesting pictures to show.
